Training programme
The training of young Albanian students of archaeology at a dedicated summer school at Butrint has been a feature of the Butrint Foundation’s archaeological programme since 2000.
Supported by the Packard Humanities Institute, a cohort of students selected from the Universities of Elbasan, Gjirokastra and Tirana as well as (between 2000-5) Pristina University in Kosovo have been introduced to modern field methods. The programme essentially illustrates the basic techniques of stratigraphic archaeology and analysis.
The annual programme each July now involves alumni – invariably postgraduate students – in supervising younger students who learn the skills of excavating and recording archaeological deposits in the Vrina Plain site.
