From Saranda to Butrint

Saranda is 19 km north of Butrint, and the journey time is about 30 minutes by car. From the road there are spectacular views across Lake Butrint to the ancient city of Butrint and out across the Corfu Straits.

Taxis are generally easy to find at Saranda. When coming off the ferry it is likely there will be taxi drivers waiting for customers. Taxis can also be found in the town square, which is a short walk from the port along the sea front. If you are going directly to Butrint expect to pay 10 Euro / 1200 Leke.

To return to Saranda from Butrint in the afternoon can at times be difficult. However, it is possible to arrange to have the taxi driver for the day and to wait for you at Butrint. This service should cost in the range of 40-50 Euro / 5,500-7000 Leke.

One can also travel from Saranda to Butrint on the regular bus service. This service can be found by turning right out of the port and then continuing down the hill to the roundabout – clearly identifiable by the tree in the centre of it; the bus stop is on the left. A journey on the bus lasts 45-60 minutes.

If driving from the port, you should turn right, going straight at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill and follow the road Skanderbeg until you arrive at the market square. Here you take the lower road on your right (Flamurit); shortly after joining the main road out of the town there is a right turn signposted Ksamil and Butrint. This road winds along first the seafront then Lake Butrint, and takes you straight through Ksamil terminating at Butrint. Note that there are numerous petrol stations in Saranda but only one between Saranda and Butrint, located at Ksamili.
